In September, we held a session to celebrate ASP turning 20 years old!🎉

Our good friend Tim Frenneaux facilitated the call for us, beginning a process which explores how ASP develops itself and emerges to face the needs of the moment. He emphasised the need for the work that we’re doing, that ASP and all of the practitioners are doing, to create change.

In this vein, Tim started the session off by encouraging everyone to share quotes about the possibility, or impossibility, of the moment. Tim then took us through a whirlwind introduction to the Three Horizons process, which we are now partway through at this point in time with Horizon 2 still to come.

We invited Mike Zeidler, the ‘catalyst for ASP’s creation’, to talk with Tim about the history of ASP; how it came to be, the role it has taken on over the past 20 years, and how it might transform and emerge as we look to the future.

Mike first discussed what ASP set out to be and what the mission was from the very beginning: Supporting learning that transforms behaviours from unsustainable to sustainable practices. As Mike puts it, “that vision is one that stands the test of time.” Mike also talked about the importance of the conditions needed for transformative change: Agency (the ability to act), Association (the ability to connect), and Awareness (the understanding needed to take action); all principles that ASP was built on and has taken forward over the last 20 years.

How ASP got here

Reflections from our Members

The discussion was rich with wonderful shares from so many members on the call. Some of the messages that stood out were about how ASP leads with heart and kindness and love, and is a space of warmth and safety.

Many of the reflections from the breakout groups celebrated how ASP can be a collective source of hope and light for everyone in our community and beyond, and looking to this as our role in the world going into the future.
