Mashudu’s Ripple Effect theory of change is rooted in R. Buckminster Fuller’s philosophy and is encapsulated in his vision of co-inspiring, co-facilitating and co-creating, one encounter, one-conversation and one meeting at a time, a regenerative and sustainable future in a regenerative, sustainable and flourishing earth that sustains all life within it.

Mashudu was born into the sustainability movement in December 2009 at Schumacher College.

Mashudu’s journey into the sustainability movement is aptly adapted from What is Deep Ecology by Stefan Harding which is described as deep experience, deep questioning, deep learning and deep commitment. The deep experience took place in 2004 at a workshop organized by Lance Secretan on Higher Ground Leadership in the town of Barrie north of Toronto at Kempervelt Conference Center along the shores of Lake Simcoe. During this conference Mashudu had what can only be described as metanoic experience when, for the first time in his life, he came to understand that he is a physical, socio-psychological and ecological heterotroph. He came to a sudden realisation that the sun, the trees, the earth and himself are intricately interconnected, that without the sun,  the trees and the earth he could not possibly exist at least in his current form.

This event resulted in deep questioning and learning as Mashudu became a student of Sustainability at Schumacher College UK, Cambridge University and an MSc in Sustainability and Responsibility at Ashridge Hult Business School UK. He also completed certificate studies in Big History – a transdisciplinary history of the universe from the Big-Bang to Modern Times and Becoming Human – a programme in Anthropology with Macquarie University. Mashudu is also currently enrolled with Ubiquity University (USA) for a PhD in Wisdom Studies. His area of inquiry is in understanding and developing a new universal and inclusive model of the economic agent to replace the current self-interest maximization and “greed is good” homo-economicus model. In this area of inquiry Mashudu was inspired by R. Buckminster Fuller who taught that the best way to change an existing system is to create a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.

Mashudu is committed to becoming a sustainable and symbiotic self in his personal, organizational and societal practice. From an organizational practice perspective Mashudu established Sustainable Ethical Solutions Holdings which is championing change in the energy and health sectors. Two of its subsidiaries  Mitochondria Energy and Singamati (we are water) Holdings are working to create sustainable solutions in technology to bring about the ubiquitous emergence and universal acceptance of the Hydrogen Economy. Plans are to build a 250MW fuel cell manufacturing plant in a  Hydrogen Valley Green Development Zone in Mpumalanga Province of South Africa
