As a prelude to our Listening Circle with the Doughnut Economics Action Lab community, Tim caught up with their Business & Enterprise Lead, Erinch Sahan, to discuss the Doughnut Economics approach to business transformation and how this forms a core element of system change.

We heard from Erinch about the ambitious ideas for products and services imagined by people in business, that are blocked by internal expectations such as profit margins or rates of return. Viable, profitable, business ideas are not being taken forward because they are not profitable ENOUGH, yet this profit gap is the space which tomorrow’s businesses will need to learn how to exploit.

Working back from here, Erinch outlines how the Doughnut Design for Business approach unpicks the deep design of the business that is holding them back from creating the viable future we long for.

In our Listening Circle, we’ll pick up from here and examine how we can leverage this established approach to business transformation by identifying where we can put people-power behind ideas that can shift the needle on transformation.

…as Erinch acknowledged at the end, this stuff is hard for change makers and business business leaders alike; we need to find a way to make it easier if we are to have any hope of a beautiful future.“
