The ASP and ORB partnership: ushering new ideas into practice in the service of current and future generations

ASP and ORB announce a new alliance that recognizes their very different and complementary approaches to creating a more sustainable future. This is intended to offer our respective Members more ways in which they can benefit from the two communities and the very different focus each has.

The core focus of the Organisation for Responsible Businesses (ORB) is values-based Micro, Small and Medium-sized Businesses in the UK and Ireland: supporting them to move to more sustainable business operations that resonate with their founders’ ethical values and sense of “good business;” and promoting members externally. It has spent years co-creating the tools, processes and support culture that directly serve the needs of these organisations whilst emphasising the “Small is Beautiful” philosophy and leaving a lighter footprint.  Its Board comprises SME/Micro business owners and business leaders with decades of experience. Its membership includes a wide range of companies and support organisations including accountants, marketing, PR, consultancies, certification agents, creatives and artists, retail, trades and more. ORB is a member-owned company, and a Member Council ensures effective and transparent communications between Members and the Board.

The Association of Sustainability Practioners (ASP) on the other hand is a membership community for individuals who want to learn together how to move from unsustainable to sustainable practices in ALL aspects of life.  It offers safe spaces for creativity, collaboration, experimentation, and exploration of new ideas that could lead to New Stories that serve future generations.  It’s an international, multi-generation, multi-disciplinary, diverse community of people that offer connection, support, and challenge to each other.  We are a community of practitioners: academics, consultants, coaches, mentors, artists, journalist, creatives, story tellers, business people, technologists, students and draw upon different cultures and practices from people across time zones, cultures and generations.

The respective aims and values of ASP and ORB are in harmony, and the overlap of our respective memberships is extensive. Together we offer a range of opportunities, practices and support that can transform the way business is done, enable people to realise their values and usher new ideas into practice in the service of current and future generations. That means people can benefit by being members of either or both, and participating in both organisations’ activities.

How the alliance will work:

The two organisations will operate as before as seperate organisations and will now collaborate as follows:

1. Communicating the alliance to the outside world, via newsletters to promote the alliance and encourage new members to each/both organisations.

2. Communicating the alliance to ASP and ORB members to encourage cross-pollination in memberships.

3. Sharing invites of each other’s events to the two communities (1-2 per month), to encourage cross-pollination between the organisations, and sharing and creative inputs between the organisations during these events.

4. Co-creating events as the need arises, including encouraging the respective memberships to propose events that they feel will be of value, and to host events which will reach both audiences.

The perspective of two (of many) Members of both organisations:

Rachel Manns Photography

“As a member of both ASP and ORB, I receive enormous benefit both as a small business owner and an individual. ORB is a fantastic community for small business, with a robust and comprehensive approach to ensuring their membership is indeed a network of responsible business.  Whereas ASP has offered me a different sense of community, one that supports my agency, and encourages my creative practices for change and impact. Both are critical in my personal and business success.

What both organisations have in common is an incredible capability for connectivity and real desire to foster collaboration. The connections I have made in the time I have been involved with both these organisations has been life changing.”

Khandiz Joni, creative sustainableist

“I found The Association of Sustainability Practitioners (ASP) to be an invaluable resource for anyone looking to make a meaningful impact in the world of sustainability. Their dedication to promoting sustainable practices and educating professionals is truly inspiring. As a member of the ASP, I have found a community of experts who are dedicated to advancing the sustainability agenda, helping one another and driving positive change. ASP is an invaluable resource for anyone looking to make a meaningful impact in the world of sustainability and it made a huge difference in our early work in advancing digital sustainability.

As a member of the Organisation for Responsible Businesses (ORB), I am proud to be part of a community that is dedicated to promoting ethical and sustainable practices in business. The ORB is not just an organisation, it’s a movement. A movement for responsible business practices that put people and the planet first. By joining the Organisation for Responsible Businesses, I am part of a community of like-minded individuals who prioritise sustainability and responsible business practices.”
