Being radically yourself when the stakes are high.
A 2 hour online, interactive session, including a 15 minute break. You will have practical takeaways to apply immediately.
The session
To get by in the modern world, we find methods to ‘hold our own’ in moments of pressure. But how much do we meet those moments with authenticity? When do we say the safe thing (instead of the real thing)? Why do the best answers seem to appear on the way home? What’s it going to take to be true to ourselves when it matters most?
This session is an adventure into who you are, how you respond to pressure and a potent method for being ‘radically yourself’ when the stakes are high. And if that sounds a bit too straight-laced for you, just know this is the entry point (far the deepest part of the dive).
Sam Crosby, L&D programme designer, facilitator and mythologist, is interested in the business of ‘competency camouflage’. A quirk of our culture in which we project ‘I’m fine’ when the deeper desire is ‘I feel’. For Sam’s work, the roots go all the way back to ancient stories, initiation, the journey towards elderhood, but this session is a beginning.
Join Sam for a highly interactive session, introducing time-tested means to be true to yourself in moments of high pressure.
You will walk away with:
- A check in on your ‘baseline’ state of meeting pressure.
- Three techniques to practice meeting high pressure by being radically true to yourself.
- Unblock, unlock or leap over a challenge you’ve been avoiding.
- A pocket-sized, ancient story to guide you in times of uncertainty.
- The foundational aspects of the ‘Ancient Clarity’ model, a simple structure to call upon in future moments of high pressure.
Expect to:
- Learn why being ‘radically yourself’ can help you in moments of high pressure in life and work. And, more importantly, practical steps on how to go about doing it.
- Explore ancient trends around overwhelm, people pleasing and perfectionism.
- Play with a model of your own ‘personal pressure pattern’: a mixture of insights from the physics of pressure and behavioural themes which have repeated throughout human history for thousands of years. Includes steps for how you can make the changes in your life that you’ve probably, on some level, wanted for some time.
About Sam:
After experiencing life-changing trauma – a ‘rationalist facing irrationality’ – Sam found himself looking for deeper meaning. After 5 years leading an inquiry into the power of storytelling in the context of systems change, his mission is to be of service to people working for the good of future generations
In simple terms, Sam’s dare is that the time for ‘maybe’ is passed. His belief is that the world needs the ‘people doing good’ to be as well resourced as possible to do that work. His hope, in this workshop, is that we learn to notice and face up to three of the perennial challenges in high-pressure situations: people-pleasing, overwhelm and avoidance.
