I am a chartered occupational and chartered coaching psychologist, chartered scientist, writer, story-worker and poet-in-progress. My interest now is in regenerative praxis and revitalising the imagination, and I works as a supervisor, leadership coach and organisational advisor.
A former print journalist, I worked for a leading UK TV magazine before moving into my second career, gaining my Masters degree and foundational training in gestalt as a mature student. I was then a contributor to the complexity programme of the London School of Economics, guest tutor for Masters/MBA programmes in creativity and change, and have worked with change processes in the UK, Europe and USA, as well as to develop leadership in national and local government, and in the financial, legal, media, manufacturing, healthcare, educational and arts sectors. I trained as a facilitator and co-led Be the Change sessions in association with The Pachamama Alliance, for an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, socially just human presence on this planet.
As a practitioner-researcher, I have a longstanding relationship with complexity and story in organisations, combining story with appreciative inquiry to generatively evaluate services for vulnerable groups. In 2020 I became a story circle host for a pioneering NHS social prescribing pilot, addressing loneliness. I have undertaken doctoral research in metacognition and independent study into the psychology of wisdom and the wider field of adult developmental approaches. Human creativity has been a constant through my work, enabling an approach that is potential-focused, holistic, learns through enquiry and is underpinned by gestalt.
My publications include articles, papers and chapters on gestalt, ethics, supervision, wisdom, metacognition and complexity, including for the international Wiley-Blackwell Handbook of the Psychology of Coaching and Mentoring, The Handbook of Coaching Psychology and 101 Coaching Supervision Techniques, Approaches, Enquiries and Experiments. I am co-author of The Power of the Tale about narrative use in organisational life.
Practicing poetry as a reflective discipline for emerging new perspectives, I apply notions of praxis, poesis and imagination to enable practically wiser ways in challenging times.
