Reflections
Many of our participants shared their thoughts throughout the workshop on emotional resilience, love, leadesrship, and the unique identity of ASP.
Gwyn Jones reflected on the need for a strategy to lead people out of current crises. He highlighted the concept of “radical love” as a necessary core value to counter oligarchic/authoritarian systems and institutions driven by fear.
The group also discussed ASP’s role as an “Island of Sanity” inspired by Margaret Wheatley, a safe haven that provides support and safety during these times of systemic collapse. We explored how these can be ideas, people, or initiatives that seem to be based on principles aligned with us, that we could imagine weaving together to become the foundation of the new world, the new order.
Helena Kettleborough and others discussed the necessity of action as an antidote, and how doing (e.g. planting trees or digging ponds in our communities) might help to restore a sense of agency that’s often lost when we feel overwhelmed by global issues.
We split into breakout groups towards the end to address some of the key questions that came up at the beginning of the session. Several members stressed the importance of showing who ASP is (particularly through the website) and conveying the core themes and messages of ASP that we want people to see.
This helped us take a deeper look at the more practical steps for ASP’s evolution, and how we can weave together everything that we’ve delved into throughout our Three Horizons journey over the last few months.
