Join us as we spend an hour showcasing and exploring the financial levers, big and small, available to us in responding to the current challenges around climate and nature loss. Does financial investment have a role to play and how can green communicators access more of it?

Co-hosted by Louisa Dean from Naturesave Trust, Tamsin Bishton from Wilsome LLP, and Gwyn Jones from The Association of Sustainability Practitioners.

We will draw on experiences and perspectives from:

Why?

The debate about whether “big finance” has the capacity to do anything but harm to our planet is not a new one.

Advocates say green investment is the only way.

Others point to the evidence that a capitalist / growth based economic response only leads to more of the same: extraction and overloading the finite systems of our world.

The recent announcement that the Government will support a third runway at Heathrow and still expects to reduce emissions goes to the heart of the issue.

In this session we’ll ask our contributors to unpack some of the big ideas such as “natural capital”, “green growth” and “doughnut” economics, as well as hear from businesses who are financing climate mitigation and adaptation work with their profits.

They’ll tell us about the work their organisations are doing to finance a carbon-free, regenerative future, and discuss whether “big finance” is a help or a hindrance.

And we’ll share ideas and experiences of ways that communicators and change makers in the sector can access greater funding and investment opportunities.
