ASP – Association of Sustainability Practitioners

Sarah Flynn

As a Research Psychologist and coach, I am fascinated by how we support our resilience during times of transition, challenge, and change; in a sense it is ‘human sustainability’.

I work with sustainability professionals to help them purposefully thrive as they create change in the world. I work with clients across the following areas, and the interplay between each in their professional lives:

  1. Personal Resilience – how individuals can thrive by aligning their wellbeing and performance to build sustainable resilience; understanding their purpose and values to find their unique role in addressing sustainability; recognising and harnessing difficult emotions; overcoming internalised critics, saboteurs, and voices of doubt to increase confidence and impact; maintaining personal resilience when working with people with very different agendas.
  2. Relational Resilience – establishing the relationships necessary to achieve change; using coaching principles to navigate conflict and manage competing agendas, bridge interpersonal divides, and bring people along as collaborators on the journey of change.
  3. Resilient Systems – creating systemic change in response to the climate crisis, changing systems to become more sustainable; changing the paradigms of human-nature relations that we collectively live and work by
  4. Aligning all of these to help us live ‘in right relationship’ with our beautiful planet

I’m an ICF accredited coach (PCC) and trained Organisation, Relationship and Systems coach (CRR Global). My own company is called Well On Purpose and I’m also a founding member of The Climate Change Coaches and co-author of the forthcoming book ‘Coaching and Climate Change: The Power of Connection to Create Climate Action’ (McGraw Hill OUP, in press).

My clients have come from a range of sectors and include C40 Cities, Microsoft, Royal Bank of Canda, Legal and General, Natwest, The British Red Cross, ICBC, AxaXL, Sidley, Dentons, UCL, Imperial College London and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

I am an invited lecturer on ‘Authentic Resilience for Sustainable Performance’ for the MSc Sustainability Leadership Programme at the University of Cambridge.

Home is in Kent with my husband, two children and Italian Spinone hounds, Herbie and Rolo. Herbie and I both love swimming in the sea, and Herbie is currently teaching puppy Rolo to enjoy the water too.
