Reflections on the Humber #1: From fest to community, creating hopeful futures… Reflections on a hopeful future

As we journey into winter and the sap falls into the roots it is time to gather, put down the anchors, sit on the anchored bobbing boats, warm ourselves by the fires and draw ourselves in.

As we sit in circles reflecting and listening; who are we, where have we come from, what did our ancestors do, who were the untold heroes and heroines?

As we dig deep, telling stories of those long gone, remembering those that have past, lest we forget… We welcome the voices of those in the margins and give space to those that may not have had space at the table before; all are welcomed and listened to. In so doing we rejoice in all that brings us life, celebrate and warm ourselves with these memories as we discover what gives us strength.

We journey deeper to discover the environment and understand the land and nature, journey into the deep time walk, going back in time and listening, discovering what brings us life, what connects us, what brings us together, what helps us bounce back in adversity.

Before the sap rises we start to imagine what the spring might bring, what might we like to nurture and what shoots of hope can be nurtured… we tend the fires, nurture our beings and develop strong roots whilst we dream and envision new ways… surrendering to what is, allowing space to grieve, space to be.

We spend time looking for the pockets of the future, looking to what others have done, looking for the best that can be…

As we tend to the shoots of hope we embrace the uncertainty and vulnerability; nurturing, feeding, listening and developing the ingredients to grow and step forward, so in the summer the blooms can flourish and shine, in order to reap in a rich harvest and reflect again next winter.

Each quarter the boats are tended, the journey unpacked and then the boats re packed for the coming months, each time getting closer to the dream…..

There are points of reference that are visual reminders, the consciousness of the situation is lifted into the everyday, not to scare but to build communities of listening, understanding and co creation.

River, ebbing flowing, growing, take me, leave me, know me.

I bring riches, growth, space, freedom, devastation, cleansing… and so much more.
