People’s Emergency Briefing: June 2026 status – over 1600 film screenings

Taking the Briefing Nationwide GLOBAL

In November 2025, the National Emergency Briefing brought together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis to politicians and other influential people in Westminster.

Since then a specially produced film summarizing the expert talks with reactions from members of the public, “The People’s Emergency Briefingis helping build support for the call to action from the UK Government.

The goal in the is to engage political leaders with local communities to hold prime-time hold a prime-time televised emergency briefing on the climate and nature crisis, delivered live by trusted independent experts.

As of mid-June 2026 the People’s Emergency Briefing initiative is gaining massive momentum with 1628, to date, film screenings being held, not just across the UK, but recently also globally.

These screenings are being organised by local communities, organisations and in at least one case, by a standing MP, to raise awareness of enormity of the threat facing us and to identify concrete actions that governments, organisations, councils and individuals can take to avoid the worst and adapt to the resultant impacts of climate change and biodiversity destruction.

Call to Action:

Chris Packham’s petition calling for a televised emergency briefing on the climate and nature crisis has passed 22,000 signatures, and the government has now issued an interesting response.

The government is positive about the work of the National Emergency Briefing, acknowledging the growing risks posed by climate and nature breakdown, and recognising the need to act faster to protect the UK.

…one crucial question unanswered.

The petition is not about whether the government itself is aware of these risks. It’s about making sure the British public is fully informed of them.

The government points to ministerial statements as evidence of communication. But a statement made to 650 MPs in Parliament is clearly not the same as a prime-time televised emergency briefing, which would be introduced by the Prime Minister, delivered by independent experts, and designed to reach the entire nation through television, radio, news coverage and social media.

NEB has published thei full response to the government’s statement here:
