The Organisation for Responsible Businesses (ORB) is looking for experienced sustainability professionals to become auditors for the Responsible Business Standard (RBS). The bulk of the audit process is online.

The RBS, a broad-based certification designed specifically for small businesses and validated by Anglia Ruskin University, was originally launched in 2011 as an onsite auditable certification. The certification has now been remodelled and moved online as a course with various certification options, including a CPD option with 20 hours CPD accreditation which may be of interest to some practitioners!

The highest level robust, evidence-based online certification (RBS LITE) requires two auditors to respectively assess and validate each application. An onsite visit is required if the company wishes to upgrade to full Responsible Business Standard Certification (micro-businesses with 0-4 employees are excluded from an onsite visit.)

Auditors are offered opportunities but there is never a commitment to accept any specific audit.

The RBS is designed to be suitable for the smallest sole proprietor business. There is no upper size limit although our focus is micro and small businesses. We work to a system we refer to as ASTI: Appropriate for the Size, Type and Impact of the business. It is therefore essential auditors have an understanding of small business and can take a subjective approach when assessing applications.
