ASP – Association of Sustainability Practitioners

Linda Aspey

Linda Aspey

I’m a facilitator, climate psychologist, coach, psychotherapist, speaker, supervisor and writer supporting people and organisations to develop their capacity for awareness, creativity, compassion and resilience to address personal and complex systemic challenges such as climate, ecological, mental health and social crises.

I think that when we’re entrenched in systems of harm, facing reality can be overwhelming and can heighten our sense of powerlessness, our ambivalence about change, and our preference to maintain the status quo. This applies not just to individuals but to the collective entities of organisations and institutions. So I aim to help people to better understand – individually and collectively – what’s happening and to courageously talk about their complex feelings and so address these pressing issues of our time, through 1:1 and team coaching, keynotes, talks, workshops, facilitated events, assemblies and trainings.

I’ve spent over 35 years in OD, HR, LD and Psychological consultancy yet it wasn’t until 2018 I truly woke up to our multiple, systemic predicaments.  So that’s what I focus on now.

I love learning.

Probably like many members here, I have spent years gathering knowledge and experience and yet am always hungry for more to feed my mind and soul. I’m Time to Think faculty, a board member of 3 organisations: the Climate Psychology Alliance (CPA), Transition Chipping Norton, and the Active Wellbeing Society.

I lead on the Climate Café Listening Circles training and supervision for the CPA, and I co-edited a book of essays from coaches, therapists and social change agents in 2003 entitled “Holding the Hope: Reviving Psychological and Spiritual Agency in the Face of Climate Change” (PCCS Books).

I also offer psychological and emotional support for activists and write about local issues for Chipping Norton News, and run the People Planet Pint group in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. And I walk a lot in the countryside.

I joined the ASP on the recommendation of some great friends who like me care deeply about our world and value the quality of connections that can be found in places where we can be inspired, share, and hold ourselves accountable for change with compassion, companionship and community.  ASP sounded like that kind of place and space to me.
