“My passion is encouraging businesses, particularly micro and small businesses, to operate in a way that’s good for business but also good for people and the environment.”

I believe that the role micro and small businesses can play in changing this world for the better is not only underestimated, but almost totally ignored. The focus is always on big corporates and social enterprise, and yet there are nearly 6 million small businesses in the UK, most of them living and working in the heart of their local communities.

My passion is encouraging businesses, particularly micro and small businesses, to operate in a way that’s good for business but also good for people and the environment. As we always say: “Doing Good is Good for Business.”

I am the CEO of the Organisation for Responsible Businesses CIC (ORB). We incorporated in February 2019 and launched a year later with this mission:

“To Change the World – One Small Business at a Time.”

Small businesses with 0-49 employees account for 99.26% of private businesses in the UK. They are not only an essential part of our economy, but they also have the potential to make the greatest positive impact on society.

But for too long small businesses have been undervalued and treated as inferior to big companies. That has to change, and we have therefore just launched our #smallbizBIGchange campaign.

We would love ASP members to support this campaign.

At its heart, ORB is a membership organisation: a movement for a better way of doing business.

In 2011, we also launched the Responsible Business Standard as an onsite auditable certification designed specifically for small businesses. That has now been moved to a BIG, ROBUST online course with certification options.
