My vision is a future where all of us have a close personal relationship with the nature around us, which informs our decisions in our daily life and work”

Hello, I’m Jan – it’s great to be here in this eclectic ASP community.

I combine my love of people, and of the natural world, through my work as a Nature Connection Guide.

My vision is a future where all of us have a close personal relationship with the nature around us, which informs our decisions in our daily life and work. Research clearly shows that when we feel connected with nature, we make more pro-social and pro-environmental choices.

My passion is to guide people to unearth their own innate relationship with nature. I don’t believe we can be taught to connect with nature, but if we’re in the right circumstances we experience it for ourselves as if by magic! I’m constantly amazed and delighted by just how easy and fun it can be, and how profoundly it can benefit our lives and wellbeing.

Since lockdown I’ve worked online creating interactive courses, which offer students practical ways to engage with the natural world in their neighbourhood, through practical sensory activities.

Students have the option to take the CPD version of the course, which offers them tools and skills to introduce Nature Connection into their own work e.g. education, health, social or community work.

I believe we have as much to fear from biodiversity loss and ecological collapse, as we do from climate change. Developing our own personal relationship with the natural world has a profound effect on our sense of place and belonging, and our care for our local nature – and what we love, we protect.

Times are changing fast now, and we will need to respond in ways we cannot currently imagine, to future situations. So I welcome radical collaboration with people working in any field.

I feel we need to bring the disciples back together, and share our diverse perspectives. If you feel my work could possibly support yours, please get in touch, and let’s talk!

I live in the UK, and when I am not focussing on the course (or working as a holistic physical therapist), I am often to be found walking, growing vegetables, cooking and weaving willow baskets.
