Each day sustainability becomes a bigger part of my life.
I am the Philanthropy Manager at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Southampton. NOC is the UK’s ocean research centre, with over 650 ocean scientists and engineers advancing our understanding of ocean circulation and warming, carbon storage, microplastic circulation and sea-level rise. These experts provide the knowledge that informs government policy, UN initiatives, industry processes and public action.
I am not a scientist, nor a sustainability expert, but my role is to connect companies and the public with the work that NOC is doing, to ensure that we can continue our research and together protect the ocean and protect our future.
Having spent 5 years as a primary school teacher, I know that children are more informed and more determined to protect our planet than all generations before them. Part of my role at NOC is to fund education programmes and events to engage young people and inspire future generations of scientists and engineers.
Spreading NOC’s message of urgency, action and sustainable living to all generations is a role I am honoured to have. I’m pleased to be part of ASP and hope to learn more on my sustainable journey.
