A content and digital communications practitioner who helps people tell compelling stories about climate, nature and community.
How do we envision a world that doesn’t yet exist, and that’s worth striving for?
I’m Charlie, and my work is in digital content planning, user research and communications strategy.
Across more than twenty years I’ve been active in agencies, as an in-house staffer and as a solo freelancer, planning and delivering communications that connect with people’s real needs within a rapidly changing digital landscape.
Since 2018 I’ve worked through my consultancy Wilsome LLP, partnering with purpose-driven projects, with an emphasis on climate, nature restoration, healthcare, technology and social change. Our clients have included Rewilding Britain, Sustrans and The Living Coast UNESCO biosphere.
Together with my co-founder Tamsin Bishton we curate Content Rising, the gathering of communications professionals dedicated to tackling climate change with creativity.
Increasingly I’m curious about integrating the ‘how’ with the ‘why’: can we make a practice of professional communications that’s not only in service of authentic progress, but is inherently humane and regenerative in how it’s practised?
During the spring, I spend less time in front of screens, and more time monitoring woodland and farmland biodiversity, and teaching people how to recognise birds by ear, through Birdsong Academy.
My favourite place to be is on the lowland grazing marshes of the Pevensey Levels in Sussex, among the cries of lapwings and the buzz of dragonflies.
