“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
– Buckminster Fuller
This month, we’re coming to the conclusion of our journey along the Three Horizons framework. After our Horizon 1 workshop where we noticed the systems in decline, and imagining more viable futures in Horizon 3, we now turn to our final workshop. This is Horizon 2: Bridging Innovation.
Here, we are sketching a map towards transformational innovations. We’ll take a look at inspiring innovations that are creating pockets of the future, and how we can build a bridge and avoid capture by ‘business as usual’. All of this is leading to a new story for ASP, designed and transformed by our members.
We’ll be discussing these questions in small groups:
- What innovations do we know about that are responding to the pressures for change and might be growth points of the future system? Who is doing great work in this space?
- Are these innovations perpetuating ‘business as usual’, or could they be? Is this an incremental approach, or can it be a break from the past?
- Are these innovations truly transformational, and can they build a viable bridge to H3, building a more viable future? What does better than ‘business as usual’ look like?
We’ll also take these conversations further as a whole group:
- How is ASP aligning with these pockets of the future?
- How does ASP avoid capture by ‘business as usual’?
- What purposeful innovations should ASP adopt and learn from?
After this workshop, we’ll be taking all of these questions and reflections forward into February, when we’ll be gathering the threads and consider how they converge on a way forward for ASP. We’ll all be going forth to create the transformation envisioned by the community!
We’d absolutely love you to join us for our final workshop of the Three Horizons series, though a recording will be posted afterwards on our Evolution Page, and you’ll be welcome to contribute further responses through the Miro board or by emailing us. Don’t worry about missing the last couple of sessions, as there will still be other opportunities to get involved going forward.
Facilitator:
I am a regenerative business designer, bookseller and rebel economist on a journey to understand my place in the great system of life.
I specialise in the application of 3 Horizons and Doughnut Economics particularly through creating an emotional connection with this moment, to support change that comes from the heart not just the head.
